It was with great anticipation that we travelled to the town of Goes in the south-west of The Netherlands for our first weekend of the 2023-2024 season. For some of us it meant travelling over 3 hours which is quiet a distance for Dutch understandings!Although it was pouring rain on our way to Goes it stopped just in time for our open air concert in the beautiful center of the town where we surprised many people that were doing their Saturday’s shopping at the market. A lot of people stopped and stayed a while to listen to us. And even some of them decided to visit our concert that night! The Music Festival was held in a nice church together with Together One, a choir from the town of Dordrecht. An appreciative audience enjoyed the whole evening where we performed the following pieces:• Crown Him! (Ritman)• Faith is the Victory (Curnow)• Speak, Lord (Sharman)• No more! (Creamer)• Silent Noon (Vaughan-Williams/Ritman), Cornet soloist: Michel Arnoldus• What a beautiful name (Collier)• Epainos (Collier)• Amsterdam Festival March (Bearcroft)On Sunday morning we gathered in the new hall of Goes where we met the friendly people from the corps. Our new Executive Officer, comm. Alistair Venter, challenged us to practice our faith, hold on when it’s difficult and consider one another. The band played Arise! (Phil Rayment) And the 2nd movement of William Himes’ To the Chief Musician during the meeting and surprised the people with a small wind-up after the meeting. We closed the weekend with a masterclass for the corps band of Goes. They joined us in playing and our bandmaster worked with their corps bandmaster on his conducting skills.Besides all the people from the corps took really good care of us so we can look back on a great weekend! ...
